Today, the Dutch Supreme Court rejected the Russian Federation’s final appeal in the Yukos case, bringing a definitive end to over two decades of proceedings in relation to the expropriation and unlawful treatment of our clients’ investment in the former Yukos Oil Company.
The Court’s decision paves the way for the continuation of the worldwide enforcement proceedings of the largest arbitral awards in history, whose value today exceeds $65 billion.
In 2014, our firm’s late founder, Emmanuel Gaillard, celebrated the victory in the arbitration as a “great day for the rule of law”. His words resonate today more than ever.
This is an immense victory for our client (GML Press Release), first and foremost, as well as for the rule of law.
It is also a superb achievement by everyone at the firm who has been part of this long and challenging journey. The team in the arbitration was led by Professor Emmanuel Gaillard and Professor Yas Banifatemi. The global enforcement team was initially led by Emmanuel Gaillard, until his passing, with Benjamin Siino and Yas Banifatemi. The firm’s team included, in alphabetical order: François Bordes, Peter Petrov, Yael Ribco Borman, Andrei Solin, Masha Tsarova, Teresa Vega, and Pierre Viguier.
