Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes hosted an event focused on Sports Arbitration at the Parc des Princes during the Paris Arbitration Week 2024

As Paris is set to welcome the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes hosted an event on “Sports Arbitration: Open Talk on Key Issues and Future Challenges” during the Paris Arbitration Week 2024. The event was held on Wednesday 20 March 2024 at the Parc des Princes, the iconic stadium of the Paris Saint-Germain football club.

As detailed in the program, the conference started with introductory remarks setting out the topics of the two round table discussions that followed:

  • “Réflexions sur l’arbitrage des litiges sportifs en France” (in French, with simultaneous interpretation into English), which discussed the potential desirability and feasibility of submitting sports disputes to arbitration in France.
  • “Drawing on 40 years of the Court of Arbitration for Sport: Time for Evolution, Innovation or Revolution?”(in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French), which addressed the strengths and weaknesses of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and explored possible future developments, in the settlement of international sports disputes, including alternatives to the CAS.

Simultaneous interpretation was provided by Jus Mundi, the event’s supporting partner.

The conference was followed by a cocktail reception, which took place in PSG’s President Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s lounge, which leads to the official stand and provides a panoramic view of the stadium (which was lit up for the occasion). During the cocktail reception, the Stadium’s guides gave small-group tours, enabling participants to visit the team’s locker room, the pitch side, and other emblematic areas within the home of PSG.
