Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes is proud to host the 2024 Gaillard Lecture, which will be held at Abdeen Palace in Cairo on 29 December 2024.
The Gaillard Lecture is an itinerant lecture series that our Firm has organised since 2022 in honour of the late Professor Emmanuel Gaillard, Founding Partner of our Firm, thought leader in the field of international arbitration, and one of the founding fathers of the field.
The 2022 Lecture took place in Paris and was delivered by the Rt Hon. the Lord Hoffmann of the House of Lords.
The 2023 Lecture was held in London and delivered by the Rt Hon. the Lord Neuberger, former President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
To mark the launch of our Firm’s Middle Eastern offices in Cairo and Abu Dhabi, this year’s Lecture will take place at Abdeen Palace in Cairo and will focus on the role of State courts in supporting international arbitration. It will be introduced by H.E. Judge Adnan Fangari, Minister of Justice of Egypt, H. E. Counselor Abdel-Razak Shoaib, the President of the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority, and Judge Moustafa Elbahabety, Deputy Minister of Justice for Arbitration and International Disputes.
The Lecture will take the form of a conversation across the Mediterranean between Judge Ahmad S. Khalil, Former Vice President of the Egyptian Court of Cassation, Judge Nabil Omran, Vice-President of the Egyptian Court of Cassation and Head of the Commissioners’ Panel at the Court of Cassation of Dubai, and Judge Dominique Hascher, Former Judge at the French Court of Cassation and the Paris Court of Appeal and Adjunct Professor of Law at Université Panthéon-Sorbonne.
